Students at Umpqua Community College came together on social media in the wake of a mass shooting at their school
The small community college of Umpqua in rural Oregon is the site of the latest mass-shooting at a school in the United States which saw a single shooter kill 10 and wound 7 people. As students tried to find out what was happening and cope with the tragedy they posted to social media networks like Twitter. Here’s some of what they had to say.
The hero and the victims
Here’s your hero! Chris Mintz, Army vet used to live in Tacoma. He rushed the gunman and survived being shot 7 times pic.twitter.com/0lj8JF67or

“Think of Chris Mintz, who was shot while rushing a killer on his son’s sixth birthday. Forget the zero and remember the hero.”” />” />” />” />” /> — Katherine Ann Miller (@millerkat57) October 2, 2015

The #RoseburgStrong vigil on Thursday night
The night of the shooting saw the Umpqua College community rally together in a candlelight vigil. Hundreds of students, staff and community members attended to remember the victims and give support to each other.
Thank you to Justin Pittman for this photo of the first vigil. As Pittman says, this sums up a lot right now.

Religious or not… To look down the barrel of a gun and know what was coming to you and to hold your faith and your beliefs… That’s REAL. — Walker (@AwkwardWalkward) October 2, 2015
