$40,000 scholarships for skilled trade students

Schulich Foundation aims to equip potential skilled trade workers for industrial development with the Schulich Builders Scholarship

A new scholarship program, Schulich Builders, is being launched specifically for local future students enrolling in skilled trade programs at GBC. It is the latest program offered by the Schulich Foundation.

The Schulich Foundation is one of the biggest foundations in Canada. Its initiative is to support students and education across various disciplines.

The foundation has funded different college programs, such as business, engineering and medicine in the past years. The scholarship program for skilled trade students aims to enable future workers in the field.

The program is awarding five $20,000 scholarships for students studying one-year certificate programs and five $40,000 scholarships for those studying two-year diploma programs at GBC.

Students who will be enrolling in 13 programs at the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semester are eligible candidates.

“It is the GBC Foundation’s continued and ongoing commitment to access to education to GBC students that has made this gift, and others possible,” said Krisztina Arany, the director of advancement and alumni engagement at the college.

Each applicant will be evaluated by the quality of their submitted recommendation letter. Preferred referees are a former employer or co-worker, staff from high school, or community service organization.

Applicants’ financial needs will also be considered in the selection process.

The scholarships will support students’ tuition cost, living expenses and tools that are required in their programs.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 30th, 2023. Students can apply via this link: https://www.georgebrown.ca/SchulichBuilders-application.
