Five games with strong women leads

A list of notable video games that reflect women’s strengths.   

Videogames have shifted from being just a boy’s club.  

The Entertainment Software Association says women players consistently make up to 48 per cent of the total gaming population.  

To celebrate the International Women’s Day, let’s see a list of noteworthy games that feature great female leads. 

  1. Horizon Zero Dawn
    Aloy, a skilled young huntress who was casted out by her tribe at birth, is set to prove her worth and find the truth about her heritage in a post-apocalyptic world filled with machine-dinosaurs. A strong and masterful warrior, who’s also not afraid to be vulnerable and show her emotions. We follow Aloy in her journey as a young woman who just wants to be accepted and proven into a savior of the world.
  2. Tomb Raider
    Who doesn’t know Lara Croft? An athletic and intelligent archeologist, who uncovers lost treasures, unravels mysteries, and explores exotic sites. The recent trilogy goes in depth about Lara Croft’s character, starting as an inexperienced but dedicated historian and progressing into a hardened and brave survivor. 
  3. Celeste
    Celeste is an indie platformer that focuses on the story of Madeline. The game explores mental health struggles, such as fear of failure, depression, and chase after happiness and acceptance. In her journey through the mountain of Celeste, Madeline faces her inner demons and learns to accept herself.  
  4. A Plague Tale: Innocence.
    The game is set in the Dark Ages, as a plague is laying waste in the Kingdom of France. We experience the story as a young girl Amicia, who’s taking care of her little brother Hugo. Amicia is only 15 years old, but she possesses strong survival and hunting skills, and she’s dedicated to face the dangers and keep herself and her brother alive against all odds.  
  5. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
    The game allows players to choose between male and female character, but the developers intended for Kassandra to be the canonical playable character. Kassandra is a mercenary who has learned to fend for herself since early childhood. Now the fate of the Ancient Greece lies on her shoulders, as she works to take down a secret shadow organization.
