Meet the new Director of Operations

Hadja Adama Bah shares her hopes and aspirations as she takes on her new role.

Hadja Adama Bah, a third-semester Business Marketing student has been elected as the new director of operations for the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC).

Originally from Ivory Coast and a native French speaker, Bah is an international student at George Brown College (GBC) who has a vision towards success in her new role.

As a first-generation student, Bah began her journey with ambition and hopes after completing her high school and her bachelor’s degree from Institute LKM, a private educational institution in Ivory Coast.

Migrating to a new country was not an easy feat for her, but Bah has overcome the language barrier by learning English before embarking on this new journey. After being a student at GBC for more than a year now, she feels ready to expand her horizons in terms of the student experience she has had at GBC.

“I always wanted to contribute to George Brown College, especially in the student experience. So, when I saw the position, I knew that this was my chance to be part of this amazing student experience at George Brown,” stated Bah.

She revealed that she was originally unaware of the vacant position. The push to nominate herself for the position came from her friends. Bah thus became the only candidate to run for the position in the fall elections.

Being the only candidate, 771 of the 1127 votes casted were in her favour.

Along with the leadership skills that she brings to the table, Bah has been an active community welfare supporter back in Ivory Coast. Connected with various communities, she has worked for the homeless, distributing food and spreading joy.

Entering a new country changed the dynamic for her as she had to adapt to a different culture. Settling is difficult but she has finally reached a point where she can help and uplift others once again, and this time she wishes to work on bringing changes to the student life at GBC.

Picking up topics that have been a concern for students, she aims to prioritize and promote student voices, while monitoring the organization’s performance effectively, and ensuring the respect of policies.

Willing to promote diversity on campus, Bah is all geared up to put her best foot forward with empathy, integrity, and innovation at the SAGBC.

Being an international student, Bah is passionate about bringing forward the issues faced by international students and is willing to provide solutions for them.

“I would like to help the Board and the staff management to exceed in their mission to assist students in the college, and I’d like to help the student association to promote students’ voices by participating in the expansion of projects,” she said in her candidate statement.

Bah is moving forward with hopes and expectations and believes that this will help her grow individually and prepare her for the world that awaits outside the student life.
