Holiday Performance at GBC St James Campus

The Wolfpack spreads holiday cheer while giving back.

Students and faculty enjoyed good music and the spirit of giving.

The Wolfpack, a band put together by Dr. David Wolfman, professor with George Brown College (GBC) for 28 years, treated students to a holiday performance on Dec. 13. The performance even had a special guest with Dr. Gervan Fearon, president of GBC on the saxophone

Taking place at the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (CHCA), students and faculty enjoyed the performance with seasonal refreshments provided by the college.

The idea came to Wolfman after seeing Fearon play the saxophone on his holiday card.

“I organized it all. I set up a studio at my house and we played every second Sunday to practice.”

Additionally, United Way, a non-profit organization, had a booth to sell t-shirts at the event.

George Brown has been involved with United Way, most recently with GBC’s 2022 United Way campaign. The campaign which carried through the month of November raised more than $81,000, far exceeding its $50,000 target.

However, United Way’s involvement at the performance event was not part of the campaign, which has already closed. Wolfman reached out to United Way to be involved out of the spirit of giving.

“As I was playing, I thought, we should raise money for United Way. I work with a lot of organizations that use United Way so to me, it’s a good cause,” Wolfman said.

Michael Herrera, co-chair for the GBC 2022 United Way campaign said, “We come together for a common cause, over 2.5 million people in the GTA used a United Way service especially in the last two years during the pandemic.”

“Dr. Wolfman was looking at providing music for the college, a great way of bringing people together. He had suggested that instead of just having the event to entertain people, there’s always a way for people to feel like giving back,” he added.

All proceeds from the T-shirt sales at the event went to United Way, and the organization will decide how best to use these funds.

Interested individuals can also make a donation here, where they have the option to choose the cause to which United Way guides the donation.
