SAGBC statement on Iran

The Student Association of George Brown College Stands in solidarity with Iranian Women and add our voices to the calls to end systemic state violence. We stand with students and employees from Iran who are protesting for their rights and freedom of expression.

These protests started after the death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman Masha Amini on September 16th, 2022. This young woman died in police custody in Tehran three days after morality police arrested her for exposing too much hair in public. Large protests are ongoing in every corner of Iran, and a state-induced Internet outage in Iran has left many of our students disconnected from their families and loved ones. The Board of Directors would like to extend our support to students and staff impacted by this evolving situation. We are here for you, and we will do our best to provide care, comfort, and support.

We are committed to gender equality, reduced inequalities, freedom of expression, and representation of our student voices.

We call for solidarity with women and marginalized individuals such as ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities in Iran.

We call to end the violence against women and support the struggle for equality, justice, and freedom.

We are one, and we stand with you.
