THREADS is an annual event hosted by the Fashion Department at George Brown College that highlights the creations fashion students and graduates have worked on in the past year. Due to the pandemic and provincial restrictions, the showcase was held virtually this year from April 26 to 27.
This year’s theme was “Transcendence” to represent the surpassing of boundaries created by the pandemic and the systemic issues that students will rise above in their future careers
The event was broken down into four different events across two days.
One of the more highly anticipated happenings is the annual fashion show. Occurring on the second day of the event, models could be seen walking down the runway wearing the designs created by students and graduates of the fashion program.
The second event was STUDIO, a student portfolio presentation where students and graduates were given the chance to show off their work. Portfolio presentations included design projects, hand-rendered fashion, illustrations, video footage, fashion photography, and other forms of media.
FASHIONWORKS is the annual networking event that invites fashion industry partners to meet fashion program students and graduates. This gives those who have studied in the fashion program the chance to speak with experienced leaders and role models in their field to build connections and new career opportunities.
THREADS concluded with the AWARDS ceremony, to acknowledge those in the fashion program who showed outstanding achievements and creativity while studying at the college.
With all the hard work and planning that has gone into the production of the show throughout the year, it’s easy to say that this is always a very anticipated event to be enjoyed by all who attend.
“I am honestly looking forward to seeing the smiles and laughter of the audience because we put in a lot of effort this year to liven up the FASHIONWORKS and AWARDS production and make it more entertaining. I think it is going to be a show for the ages,” said Alison Ashdown, a committee member of THREADS in advance of the event.
