SAGBC election candidate suspends campaign on the opening day of voting

By Victoria Surla

On Monday, November 23, a candidate in the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC) elections informed the SAGBC that she is suspending her campaign.

The SAGBC funds the Dialog.

The candidate, Vishali Sitharthan, was running for the position of director of communications and internal before she requested to withdraw. She was one of two candidates for that position, meaning her opponent, Taranjeet Singh Manchanda, will now run unopposed.

According to a statement issued by Charles Wilson, the election’s chief returning officer, the decision was made by the student for personal reasons. Because the elections are already underway and it is too late to withdraw, the SAGBC instead published communication that she is no longer a candidate.

The SAGBC Elections opened today and run until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020.
