SAGBC Board of Directors continuing to waive SafeWalk and capital fees for Winter 2021

By Victoria Surla

At their monthly board meeting on November 16, the Student Association of George Brown College’s (SAGBC) board of directors passed a motion to refund/credit 50 per cent of its capital fees and 100 per cent of its SafeWalk fees to all full-time paying students for the Winter 2021 semester.

The SAGBC funds the Dialog.

According to Galina Chible, SAGBC’s senior finance coordinator, full-time students who have been paying their fees will be refunded/credited $18.05 for the Winter 2021 semester.

The SAGBC has already announced it is refund/crediting $26.56 for same fees for the Fall 2020 semester.

The decision was largely made after the announcement that the Winter 2021 semester is remaining online due to COVID-19, says Shemar Jordan, SAGBC’s director of operations.

“[The college] did announce that the Winter 2021 semester will be online, so folks won’t have access to SA space as they normally would,” said Jordan.

The refund/credit amount consists of 100 per cent of capital fees for the fall 2020 semester, and 50 per cent of fees for the winter semester, along with 100 per cent of SafeWalk fees for both the fall and winter semesters.
