The George Brown women’s basketball team went undefeated this month, concluding their regular season with an 88-36 smash against Georgian. In it, point guard Zae Sellers, in her final regular season game for the Huskies, hit a career-high 31 points.

For the rest of the team, aiding Sellers to that landmark would be a shared joy. “Zae has been such a great role model for everyone on the team,” said Coco Sauve. “She’s worked really hard to be the best leader she can be for all of us, and this year especially has really shown just how great of a leader she is. She is consistently putting in 100% to the team, and it has been great playing with and leading with and from her.”

The month began with a pair of wins at St. Lawrence and Loyalist, seeing Sellers and Kayna Granger would both register 12 point games the first night. Staying on the road, the Huskies added another against Seneca, Granger again making waves with 20 points. “After (beating first place Algonquin), we just continued on a good streak of winning,” added guard/forward Victoria Lawrence. With their season-closing stomp, the team wasn’t planning on a win of that magnitude. “We knew would be able to beat them,” she insisted, “but it was more a game for us to develop more for the next team (in the playoffs).”

The team finishes the season having won the last six games, tied for second in the East. They play the 7th place Mohawk College Mountaineers in a crossover series, opening the series at home, where they remain undefeated, on February 29th.

Going into the playoffs, the Huskies have high hopes. “Everything that we have done this season,” says Coco Sauve, “and pre season as a team and individually has prepared us and led us to this moment.” “For most of the team,” adds guard Vanessa Vassell, “it’s their first time going to a game like this. For some of the team but we’re trying to make it til the end. To come out victorious.”
