SA Holds Spring General Meeting

On Wednesday February 19th, The Student Association of George Brown held their Spring General Meeting at the St. James Campus, King’s Lounge.

The meeting started with a report with updates of activities and events happening around George Brown College, presented by the Student Association Board of Directors. Carla Rudberg, Director of Communications and Internal, talked about social media and event announcements. Manisha Punjabi, Director of Education and Equity, would introduce the upcoming Health & Wellness Centre to be opened at Waterfront Campus and possible Open House workshops that are planned for March, including strategies for self care, therapy dogs, wellness market, and meditation sessions.

Director of Operation Shemar Jordan talked about SA Space and the goal to find a vendor, followed by keynote speaker Felipe Nagata. Nagata, chairperson of Canadian Federation of Students Ontario, Felipe Nagata gave all the information needed about the Student Choice Initiative, which were deemed unlawful by the divisional court. Law amendments were the outcome of this decision. Two of the Law Amendments were:

Voting members and Non-Voting members in regards to whether they have paid the annual fee or not were changed to all students being a member of the Student Association, regardless

Another executive position, Director of Student Experience is now available to be elected in upcoming elections

The meeting was attended by several students, all who found the event informative in different ways. “This was my first meeting,” said Amane Abdurhman, “I learned a lot on how the student-run organizations run. It was an educational experience for me.” “I felt like the meeting was functional and formal,” noted Sandra Melbourne, “it handled all the issues.”
