Toronto is getting ready for the Pan Am games in a big way with the Toronto 2015 Building Legacies Youth Summit.

As part of TO2015’s Building Legacies youth engagement program and organized by the Youth Advisory Council, the purpose of the summit is to motivate and inspire youth to live healthy and active lives, while providing them with the necessary tools to build communities that are “rich in sports, arts and culture.”

“These games will create great opportunities for our young people to act as leaders in their communities, and the TORONTO 2015 Youth Summit will be a chance to engage them on a focused level,” said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of TO2015. “We’re excited to bring some of our best and brightest youth together to continue building a legacy beyond 2015.”

The summit will happen next year on March 21 and 22, however, registration will close Oct. 10, and is free of charge.

The organizing committee is seeking 300 young people for community-building. All applicants need to be an Ontario resident; between the ages of 16 and 24 (as of Jan. 1, 2015) and have an interest in community building.

This event already has a lot of momentum behind it, as strong partnerships have been forged within various communities to ensure it is a success. Partner organizations that have invested in the summit include the United Way, Pride TO, The Amazing Race, and Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment. It will also be available for viewing online from the Caribbean and South America.

It is truly an event for youth, by youth. The summit aims to be as inclusive as possible while leaving a positive impact towards legacy. The young people that do take this rare opportunity and participate can expect to be challenged physically and mentally through engaging activities. Everyone wins at this event, with individuals coming together to build communities up.

Youth can submit their applications by going to toronto2015.org/youth-summit, and for more information applicants can email yac@toronto2015.org or call 416-957-2015.
