Mental Beats: Monitoring the pulse of students at George Brown College

My name is Tina Todaro and I am a staff reporter with The Dialog newspaper at George Brown College.

For my first blog post, I’d just like to say that when I first started at The Dialog I had no experience except for being able to put words together and formulate a proper sentence – I can now say I enjoy writing more than ever. After attending one of the best events this year, CUP NASH 76 in Edmonton, I realized that writing and reporting is what I want to pursue.

My future posts will follow a healthcare beat as there are many issues surrounding health and mental health. These are issues I tend to report on most of the time.  My previous experience working in a long-term care residence led me to become aware of surrounding issues within healthcare institutions.

At The Dialog, sometimes we have crazy weeks but they are exciting. Sometimes work is hectic but I love being busy while doing something I love – writing.  Once you figure out how to manage all the assignments and deadlines these stressful elements of reporting become natural, but sometimes reporting hits you with surprises and you have to learn to overcome obstacles.

I found my niche with writing and have reported on some big stories so far at The Dialog.  I never imagined myself being a writer or reporter but I’m definitely glad I went for the opportunity.

If you have a mental health or general health concern that you believe students should be aware of, feel free to contact me at: dialog@georgebrown.ca

For every issue theres a tissue at The Dialog.
