Restaurants near me: INS Food

Offering students an affordable and filling meal, INS Food branches out from the usual convenience store items.

When you go to school in one of the most vibrant, and diverse cities in the world, that diversity comes with some pretty amazing food.

You can’t walk down the street in Toronto without seeing an abundance of restaurants, all sporting a different cuisine. And you owe it to yourself – and your palate – to take the time to stop and try them all.

In this new column exclusive to The Dialog, we’ll visit different restaurants, diners, and other places offering up unique and exciting food, and letting you know what it’s like.

Think of this as what Guy Fieri does, but without all the annoying catchphrases and mediocrity.

In our first adventure, we’ll talk about something new on the campuses of George Brown College.

Good food at fair prices is the promise INS Food brings to the St. James campus.

Officially opening last month, the convenience store brand expanded their offerings with freshly made food at a price that works for students.

But just how good is the food, and is it really worth stopping here for a meal and spending your money?

INS Food offers up a menu of freshly made sandwiches, wraps, burritos and more for breakfast and lunch, starting at $4.99. Their drink menu also includes made to order smoothies and even bubble tea for $5.99.

Combos are also available for breakfast – $13.99 – and lunch – $11.99.

Whether you eat everything, are vegan, or are somewhere in between, there’s something on this menu for everyone.

First up on the taste test was the grilled chicken wrap.

This wrap features juicy chicken combined with lettuce, tomato, red onion, red pepper, cucumber. It’s then topped with hummus, and a tzatziki styled Greek sauce. What stands out in this dish is the chicken, which is cooked to perfection without becoming dry. The mix of ingredients here leaves you wanting more and is as satisfying as the vegetables are crunchy.

For those who may want a little more red meat in their diet, the steak panini is not only the perfect choice, it’s a spotlight stealing item.

This sandwich is full of seasoned steak, mixed together with mushrooms, shredded cheese, and chipotle sauce. For those who are a little more daring with the spice, there are optional jalapeños that can really hit the spot.

This steak dish is a flavor explosion. It’s a mix of spice and subtle sweetness than really hits the spot, as each bite is perfectly layered with everything you could want.

To complement the food, there is the usual soft drinks and other items in the fridge next to the register. However, you may want to try a smoothie to brighten your day, perhaps with a ‘tropical breeze.’

The aptly named drink made of mango, pineapple, mixed berries, honey, hemp seeds, mint, and Greek yogurt, helps refresh you like a refreshing breeze on a hot day.

Overall, the promise of fresh food rings true, and it makes all the difference during a time when we’re all concerned about affordability.

For those planning a visit, INS Food at GBC operates daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Kings Lounge (Room 150) at the St. James Campus.
