CourseCompare is a marketplace for education that serves students from more than 100 countries. The platform matches student users to top-rated programs at colleges and universities in Canada based on career goals and learning needs.
Its ranking process includes looking at job placement rates, employer satisfaction, and student satisfaction, among other aspects.
“Over the past five years we see a shift among employers from credentials to skills, I think that there’s more emphasis now being placed on what people can do over where they secured a diploma,” he said, “So CourseCompare’s overall approach to ranking is really centered around this idea of helping prepare people for the future of work.”
CourseCompare established that GBC’s culinary arts program has an 81% job placement rate within six months of graduation. Additionally, 83 per cent of employers express satisfaction with GBC alumni.
Furtado shared that they gather thousands of ratings and reviews on the courses and colleges to build the rankings.
GBC’s placement in the top ten for several different categories suggests that the college is doing well and employers are receptive of that.
“The challenges for colleges will be to maintain that foothold that they have on applied training, while continuing to listen very closely to students and deliver, design and develop and ultimately deliver flexible options that are consistent with, with what students want,” Furtado said.
GBC currently has 226 programs over seven educational centres.
