In a recent email to students part of the George Brown College (GBC) community, Chris McGrath, the vice president of student success, announced that more classes may be open for physical delivery during the Fall semester, along with a new four-day long weekend for Canada Day.
The email was sent on the week of the one-year anniversary of the college-wide shut down.
Though the pandemic is not over yet, McGrath says that he is optimistic about the improvements of the situation.
“The good news is that we’re finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” wrote Chris McGrath in the email, “We’re optimistic for Fall 2021 and look forward to having as many students back on campus as public health guidelines will allow.”
Although the college has not announced whether the fall semester will be delivered in-person, the decrease of COVID-19 cases and the rise of vaccination rates will be an important part of their decision.
Moreover, McGrath also announced another day off for students after Canada Day. Students will have July 2 off for what is coined as “College Wellness Day”. McGrath says that the four-day weekend will help students to relax and spend time off of work.
“In anticipation of warmer weather, we have decided to extend the Canada Day long weekend by keeping the college closed on Friday, July 2 for a College Wellness Day,” said McGrath. “So, if you are in classes or working at the college this summer, this will give you a nice long break to look forward to, and a bit of extra time to unwind.”
