Kevon Mascoe leads team with 16 points
The George Brown Huskies men’s team kept their winning streak alive beating the Fleming Knights in decisive fashion, 90-78 on Jan. 22. Kevon Mascoe erupted off of the bench for a team-high 16 points and five rebounds while Dejazmatch James added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
“We need to come out strong in the first half, move the ball well and get to the rim,” Mascoe said before the game. “If we we do that and keep our intensity up for 40 minutes, I think we can win the game”
The Huskies exploded out of the gate in the first quarter shooting 44.4% from the field, defensively they used their speed to successfully pressure the ball force Fleming into 17 turnovers.
Jordan Marlowe added 10 points, and Ted Johnson chipped in 11. The Huskies’ more experienced players played tremendously in the opening half to help seal the win.
After the Huskies’ combination of guards battled Fleming’s full court pressure, Mascoe and Johnson knocked down a couple of threes, helping the Huskies close the half on an 8-2 run to make it 56-23 at intermission.
Fleming managed to climb back into the game in the second half, but it wasn’t enough, the deficit was too large and they could never get over the final hurdle. Fleming missed several crucial free throws down the stretch to narrow the margin, and the Huskies hit enough shots also using some late defensive stands to seal the win.
The important win improved the Huskies record to 10-4 for the season. Next up for the Huskies are back to back home games on Jan. 29 and Jan 30, as Algonquin and La Cite visit Casa Loma.
