Show off your detective skills during an upcoming murder mystery game.
Students and staff are invited to step into a world of mystery.
A ‘whodunit’ murder mystery event will take place on April. 23 starting at 5 p.m. Held in the Student Association games room at Casa Loma campus, attendees will have the chance to solve puzzles and show off their skills as a detective.
Organized by John Valle, a longtime staff member from the shipping and receiving department, this is a chance to network, collaborate, and solve a mystery together.
“It came about from people asking me, like different staff asked me about it. ‘Can we do an escape room?’ or ‘Can we do something different?’ Some students said, ‘You know, we don’t play sports. We prefer if you tried something different.’ And so, I really did it because they have asked,” Valle said. “I like everybody to be able to participate. Some people can’t participate in sports, but in this event, it should be easier for them.”
Valle, who in charge of bringing the annual softball tournament to fruition, loves making events like this come to life. Whether it’s sports, or game shows like Family Feud, there’s usually an event each month that happens.
Moving beyond traditional escape rooms, he has handcrafted an experience which pays homage to Agatha Christie. Participants submit their photos beforehand to make the photos into a custom animated video introduction displayed on the big screen.
From there, players investigate crime scenes, hunt for hidden clues across four separate rooms, and interact with fellow participants to piece the puzzle together.
Whether you come as you are or in a full costume, the choice is yours.
You might end up as a detective, a suspicious hobbyist, or even a killer suffering from amnesia. The goal is to make participants feel immersed within the game. There are even prizes for the person who can solve it first.
“Well, I think that anybody that is in game design or anything that would be a different technique, they could join, and then the average person, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. So, I think that if you’ve never played one of these interactive games, or been part of it, I think you’re missing out. Because I think it gives a different feeling, especially if you dress up and you get into character. If you don’t dress up and get into character, you can still solve the puzzle. you can still get a prize. At the end, the winner gets a prize,” Valle said
Bring your friends, make new ones, and prepare for a day of mystery, teamwork, and fun.
Early registration is required as time needed to animate your character into the game’s storyline. Participants can register online through gbc4me.weebly.
Upload your photo using the 3D digital dropbox on the website or email it directly to John.Valle@georgebrown.ca.
“The payoff for me is seeing people come and have fun. That’s great. If they have suggestions for the future, I’m always hoping to hear them,” Valle concluded.
