Bounce over and join the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC) on a new platform.
Easily find events, track organizations, and purchase tickets all in one space. This makes it easier for students to stay updated and attend events.
Bounce not only allows for direct convenience for students and the community, but it also has many exciting features that make it different from other applications the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC) has used before.
Jade Verdon, marketing manager at Bounce, explains what the platform is and how it benefits the students.
“Bounce is actually a platform that is a community and events ticketing app. And what it does is it allows students and honestly anyone in the area to find places to join such events to join organizations, clubs, societies,’ she said. “There’s apps that do multiple things that can benefit student unions, but there’s not one platform that has all of it with inside the same app. And so it was kind of just created to alleviate a lot of the stress that student unions face, and a lot of the other platforms just don’t understand that.”
Neil Cumberbatch, sr. coordinator with Events, mentioned the main goal of introducing the platform was to make it easier for students and for the platform to be used for events and tickets.
He notes things like being able to purchase tickets directly on the platform and see their upcoming events across services, is an ideal thing to bring to the SAGBC.
“The cool thing with Bounce is when we say, for example, we’re both students and we create an account, we could find each other on the platform and now, and similar to Facebook with the like, like each other’s pages, like each other’s accounts,” Cumberbatch said.
After attending the recent Canadian Organization of Campus Activities (COCA) conference, Cumberbatch was inspired to look further into the platform that would eventually be brought to the organization. The fact that it is already being used by many student unions across North America only helped to solidify the strength of Bounce.
“Bounce is being used at a lot of colleges and universities, not only in Canada, but also in the States. So, it’s a very popular platform. They make it easy for students. And we’re hoping to, again, just bring everything together,” he added.
In addition to what the platform already offers, he hopes to eventually bring in the student club program, as well as within the next year, a loyalty program where students have an incentive to attend events and collect points to later cash out at the end of the year for branded Student Association merchandise.
“I’m really excited for, I don’t know if it’s gonna start this year, might not be till next year, is the loyalty program, so we’re going to be able to incentivize students to attend events, earn points,” said Cumberbatch.
This points system would award students for attending events and workshops, participating in activities like the Annual General Meeting, or even reading the newspaper. These points can then be collected and traded in for unique prizes.
In terms of the rollout experience so far for the students, Cumberbatch says the biggest thing is getting the students to understand how to use the platform and the requirements. Things like using their GBC email address and joining service organizations before signing up for events is key; but once students overcome the initial steps, it will be much easier to use the platform.
Make the shift to Bounce to stay connected and informed with all that the SAGBC has to offer.
