Sustainability is a word that we often hear those days, but what is the real meaning of it?
Well, the dictionary defines sustainability as: the quality of causing little or no damage to the environment and therefore being able to continue for a long time.
We also hear that being sustainable is important for the Earth’s health and the wellbeing of our present and future generations. But is it a simple change that must be done – as closing the tap while you are not using it – or is it a global concern that lays on big companies and governments to be done?
Short answer: both.
The United Nations website claimed that in 2024, our planet was about 1.2 degrees warmer than it was in the late 1800s. In addition to that, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that 2024 was the hottest year on record – coming in about 1.55 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
Now in 2025 recent news, BBC posted that the Earth could be doomed to run through and break the symbolic 1.5 degree warming limit in only three years at current levels of carbon dioxide emissions.
On the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals list, one goal is called Climate Action, which is basically a call for action by all countries in the world to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. While, of course, the primary responsibility lies on the governments and businesses, there are many actions that each of us can do as individuals on our daily life.
Therefore, this column will cover worldwide themes and simple actions we can take daily, which will resonate globally on the health of our planet and next generations.
Every small change you can make today, can become a big relief for Planet Earth tomorrow.
