A decade of bridging cultures

The Aga Khan Museum celebrates its 10-year anniversary.

The celebration kicked off with a weekend of live music performances, creative workshops and a cake cutting ceremony.

The museum, a centre of diverse cultural exchange has worked to foster intercultural dialogue to understand the value of the rich Muslim cultures and how they relate to other cultures of the world.

“This is such an important milestone for us, and we are so happy that you are here to celebrate with us” said Kelly Francis, marketing and communications director of the museum. “We will have events and activities throughout the year. So many great stuff to come.”

“Our Chairman, his Highness the Aga Khan, said that cultural connection will be at the heart of the museum’s mission to increase and illuminate the dialog between different Muslim civilizations and then between those civilizations and non-Muslim civilizations,” Ulrike Al-Khamis, museum CEO said.

To coincide with the anniversary the museum’s newest major exhibition, Light: Visionary Perspectives opened to the public on July 13, 2024.

Inspired by the original concept for the museum and its foundational principles, Light serves as a metaphor for the pluralistic unity that shines through the museum’s exhibitions, diverse programs and educational contributions.

The exhibition features contemporary installations by world-renowned international and Canadian artists, including Anila Quayyum Agha, Tannis Nielsen, Olafur Eliasson, Kimsooja, and Anish Kapoor.

Visitors can enjoy many other immersive experiences where one can not only admire art but also interact and be a part of it, offering a truly unique experience.

The popular centerpiece in the Muesum’s most successful exhibition to date, The Moon: A Voyage Through Time, by Luke Jerram also returned due to public demand. This replica of the moon was scaled to fit within the Museum’s galleries, each centimeter of the artwork is approximately five kilometers of the moon’s surface.

This piece will be on display till March 17, 2025.

Aga Khan Museum: Celebrating the Past, Reimagining the Future, is another special exhibition showcasing photographs and video material, charting the museum’s evolution and programs over the past decade.

The exhibition is on display in the Rasheed Dhuka and Nooruddin Khawja Family Gallery. This exhibition will allow visitors to see the Museum’s transformative journey and its vision for the future.
