Since 2018, alt-punk band Napoleon has been crafting high-energy music and live shows, garnering attention and affection from fans along the way.

The band recently dropped new EP Dear God, May. 31

“We call ourselves a post-hardcore band, if you want to put us in a bucket. But somewhere between punk and metal, wherever you want to leave us, is perfectly fine,” quipped Tom Whyte, the band’s guitarist. “It’s been two years since our last EP, so it felt like the right time – the writing was complete, the recordings were finished, and we’ve shot two different music videos that we’re incredibly proud of. Everything just fell into place, and we’re thrilled with the outcome.”

Every lyric was composed to address themes of respect and boundaries.

Reflecting on their EP, Jon Elameh, vocalist and guitarist of the band, remarked, “Dear God is an album that talks a lot about my views on faith and religion. I wanted to write lyrics for this record that were a bit more meaningful, and actually had a message.”

“The value of religion is important for some, and that is totally okay, but it can never come at the expense of treating those around you with respect, regardless of their beliefs, background, sexual orientation, etc.,” he added.

Not only do the lyrics take a new direction, but this new album also marks a shift in the band’s overall musical trajectory. The band notes that this is a much darker release than their last ‘Enemy Within.’

“Since last year the band has gone heavier, incorporating more breakdowns, heavier guitars. And this has been really reflected in our live performances – the energy has been so hard, you can feel it is just there.” added Whyte.

Elameh and the whole band are very proud of the overall outcome of the new EP, hoping it resonates with fans in the same profound manner.

“Musically speaking, it is some of the best things that the band has ever done”, Whyte added.

Looking towards the future, the band is eager to keep pushing forward. “Tour over Europe or break out from the Ontario and Canadian scene a little bit, that’s the next big step for us. And besides that, we don’t wanna wait for years for the next EP. We already have some demos done and we are gonna be back to the studio as soon as possible and start recording right away again,” emphasizes Whyte.

Dear God’ is available on multiple steaming platforms.
