A networking opportunity for GBC students this International Women’s Day
In celebration of International Women’s Day and its theme “Inspire Inclusion” this year, DMZ is all set to host its second Women Innovation Summit.
The summit is a full-day event, set to happen on March. 7, and is aimed at recognizing and empowering extraordinary women in the technical fields.
The summit’s offerings include intimate roundtable discussions that will unite female founders and industry partners, a competitive pitch event designed for women-led startups seeking funding, and the announcement of DMZ’s Women of the Year award winners.
“DMZ was inspired to host its second annual Women Innovation Summit out of its profound commitment to fuel a more inclusive startup ecosystem,” said Luvy Hardy, public relations lead at DMZ.
DMZ is an incubator for tech startups and operates around the world.
The Women Innovation Summit has been carefully crafted to provide tangible support to women in the innovation field.
The top 25 selected female founders participating in the pitch competition will receive two pitch advisory sessions, PR opportunities through DMZ, invitations to DMZ’s Women of the Year breakfast event, and participation in exclusive roundtable sessions during the Summit.
Students cannot apply for the pitch competition as the applications have now closed. However, they can still attend the summit.
“Students can apply to attend the Summit starting from early February, providing them an opportunity to network with leaders from various sectors of the startup and innovation ecosystem and to learn from women-led startups from across Canada,” said Hardy.
The top 10 selected founders during this summit will have the opportunity to pitch in person for a $100,000 cash investment from The Firehood to boost their businesses.
Last year, DMZ’s Women Founders Summit awarded $100,000 to three women-led startups, Apricotton; Areto Labs; and PragmaClin.
Apricotton, a Toronto-based startup that aims to make first-time bra shopping experiences easier for young women and their parents, received $50,000.
The other two received $30,000 and $20,000 each.
Beyond the summit, GBC students are encouraged to stay involved with DMZ and its initiatives.
This includes masterclass workshops featuring curated content, offering participants practical insights to accelerate their professional and business growth.
