GBC’s got talent is back again this year to give students a platform to win prizes for their talents.
The annual event, organized by the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC), brings together students from across campuses to showcase diverse skills and passions.
Participants who make it through the audition stage of the competition will have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes at the main event. The prizes are $500, $300,and $200 for first, second, and third places respectively.
The talent show will give all students a chance to perform any form of art or showcase any talent in friendly competition against other peers.
Neil Cumberbatch, senior recreation coordinator at SAGBC said, “One of the best things about being at George Brown is the diversity, we’re a melting pot with students from all over the world and all my favourite talent shows really show that.”
Auditions took place on all three campuses last week. However, interested students can still attend auditions at St. James campus and Casa Loma campus on Nov. 14 and 15 respectively.
Selected participants will be notified by Nov. 16. They will then go on to perform at the main event being held at the King’s Lounge at St. James Campus on Nov. 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Typically, we have around 40 to 60 [students] that audition. We typically have around 20 that make it to the finals,” Cumberbatch added.
Past performances encompass everything from singing and dancing to juggling and poetry. The performances will be judged by skills and audience reactions. SAGBC staff, past performers and a select member from the audience will be the judges.
