SA club to host second event of the school year later this week.
The Applied AI club is organizing another event this month, this time focusing on providing resources to students interested in diving deeper into the field.
Open to all students who want to learn more about artificial intelligence (AI) and its industrial development, those interested can take part Feb. 10, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Titled ‘Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is here’, the event is an opportunity for students to connect with peers who have similar interests in working in the data and technology industries.
Parth Dave, president of the club will host the event, providing a general introduction to AI and discussing ways of entering the field.
Dave is currently working as a data scientist at Scotiabank for his co-op.
“It is going to be about what is the current state of artificial intelligence, and what is your status as a student right now… and how you can navigate that path in the most optimized and shortest time frame possible,” Dave said.
Having the experience of starting an AI business with other partners in the past, Dave is happy to share his experience and answer questions related to the industry.
Getting a thorough picture of working in the AI field not only educates students but also helps them determine if this career path is in alignment with their goals.
Dave encourages students who would like to pursue a career in the AI industry to expand their networks with relevant people in the field.
“If you want to be a data scientist, be in an environment where it is more likely that those kinds of conversations are happening so that you learn more, the best way to do it is going to events, joining the right clubs, making sure you’re out there, making sure you’re providing value to other people,” said Dave.
The club is still welcoming students who wish to join. Interested students can connect with the club to become members or volunteer by joining their WhatsApp group.
Further details can be found during the event, which takes place at the Casa Loma campus, room E224.
