SA registered AI club hosts its first event featuring latest OpenAI model, ChatGPT.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can now write essays and answer follow-up questions from humans.

The recently registered Applied Artificial Intelligence club will be hosting an AI workshop on ChatGPT, Dec. 16 at George Brown College’s (GBC) Casa Loma campus.

As the club’s first event, the workshop will introduce participants to the newly launched language model.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot modeled by OpenAI that interacts in a conversational manner and is able to accomplish various tasks such as writing essays, answering follow-up questions, and rejecting inappropriate requests.

“This model has been trained on all of the human knowledge till 2021 – so, going back to before Christ, even they had basic English written and up to the recent research papers on quantum mechanics and physics,” said Parth Dave, club president.

The 45-minute workshop will include a demonstration, a session to teach participants to run the code, and a Q&A session.

The workshop’s is appropriate for beginners and is not limited to those in the AI field.

“It is for anyone who wants to see what the future is going to turn out for lots of jobs. This model can write blogs, it can write code as well, it can give complex sentence answers and it can work on human feedback. So, if you say, ‘write a scholarship essay’ it will write it for you and then you say ‘Oh, change this part’ and it will change it for you,” he said.

Dave says that participants can expect to learn about the advancement of AI and get inspired to be involved in the field.

The club’s vision is to create a thriving community of people interested in AI and they hope to create and host more events such as this workshop in the upcoming semester.

Along with Anisha Singla, vice president, and ‘Samuels’ Sik Yin Sun, treasurer, Dave is working on creating more events for students in the upcoming semester.

“The overall vision [of the club] is to create a thriving community of people who are interested in AI and the short-term goal is to create as many engaging events as we can,” he shared.

The club is also working on video production to engage students who are interested in learning about AI, through social media platforms.

The ChatGPT workshop will be held in room E323 from 4 p.m. this Friday.
