Finding her beloved

The beloved equation principle of finding love is manifested in the author’s personal life story.

Artist and illustrator Marina Pinto Miller was born with cerebral palsy. Beating the challenges she has faced since childhood, the author with a PhD in Anthropology, released her second book on Nov. 9.

However, things were not always easy for Miller. Her disability held her back in many ways, including art school.

“I never seriously thought I could go to art school because of my disability, so I went in another direction. I got a PhD in anthropology,” said Miller.

It was when she had to cope with her feeling of loss towards the end of her studies that she resumed pursuing her interest in art.

The story in her new book, The Beloved Equation, was inspired by a particular song which Miller synced with in times of despair. A song about finding what she had always wanted – love.

“I grew up with a lifelong disability and I got to a certain point in life where I really wanted another kind of life. I wanted to get married, I wanted to meet someone, I wanted to find love,” Miller said. “There was nothing in my life to suggest that would happen. When I did the conventional types of things like going out to meet people, it never really worked.”

Miller felt discouraged when it came to love. But it changed when she started painting out the lyrics of the song that inspired her book and it, in turn, changed how she saw herself.

“What did work was when I said to myself, ‘okay, I’m not getting love from outside but I’m going to love what’s inside of me’,” Miller said.

As soon as she made the decision to do things that made her feel loved, she created space for herself and her beloved.

She drew and painted what her new home would look like, what she and her beloved would do, and she hung up those drawings at her house.

“So, because I listened so much to music, I worked so much and I painted so much, I almost built a different inner reality than the one that people insisted was for real,” concluded Miller.

Drawing, painting, and music not only helped her express feelings, but also inspired her to embrace herself with love and acceptance. Through art, Miller now puts her journey of finding love into a story and shares it with people.

Miller shared her hope that the book reaches people who need it to create an impact. She also encourages readers to pass the story on.

“If you read this book and you enjoy it, please give it away, or donate it or take it to where children or young people are who might need the story of encouragement. Just do whatever you can to spread the word,” she added.

Miller has one children’s book and one fantasy illustrated prior to The Beloved Equation. She hopes that her new book will open more opportunities for her to continue writing and drawing.

The book is now sold on amazon in print and digital version. Read the book to find out about the processes involved in the beloved equation.
