Rogers Centre welcomed students from universities and colleges on Sept. 16, giving them a taste of Toronto baseball culture.
For the Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC), this was the first official outing in years. More than 150 students came out for the chance to see the face-off between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles.
The game was a campaign to maintain the Blue Jays’ standing in the wild card race for the MLB and ending in a 6-3 win for the home team.
After almost two years of online event programming, the SAGBC is very excited to have in-person events and outings scheduled for students this year.
“Sports brings everyone together irrespective of their background, race or religion,” said Neil Cumberbatch, senior coordinator for Events and Recreation. He added that this was reflected in the students’ enthusiasm to attend the event and their presence.
While local students already familiar with the game got to witness their favourite team play, for many international students this was a first-time experience. The event extended a great opportunity to explore Toronto’s sporting culture and the Rogers Centre.
For many new students, it was an opportunity to interact, build connections and socialize.
This was the first of the many events that the SAGBC has planned for its students. You can keep an eye out for similar excursions and contests with exciting prizes on the Association’s Instagram handles @SAGBC and @SAGBCEVENTS.
