George Brown College (GBC) announced a COVID-19 vaccination policy on Monday. The policy will require everyone accessing the college campuses to provide proof of full vaccination or show evidence of a negative COVID-19 rapid test.
The policy will go into effect on September 7.
The move follows the lead of other Ontario colleges and universities, including York University and the University of Toronto, which announced policies that would require individuals to be vaccinated before being allowed on campus earlier this month.
GBC’s policy is more lenient than that of those schools, however. In allowing visitors to provide a negative COVID-19 rapid test, the policy follows a similar structure to Ryerson University’s. The college says rapid tests will be available on campus, though visitors are recommended to complete their test ahead of their visit. The rapid test will need to be completed no longer than 48 hours in advance of the visitor’s arrival.
“We are facing a fourth wave of COVID-19 and must work together to safeguard our collective health and well-being by getting vaccinated,” said Chris McGrath, vice-president of student success in a press release. “These new measures reflect our commitment to protecting our community amid the ongoing risks of COVID-19.”
