The list of candidates for the upcoming Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC) Spring 2021 election has been announced. 29 candidates in total are campaigning for the 10 positions.
The SAGBC funds the Dialog.
Three executive positions will be elected this spring. Current board members Urvish Patel and Sri Krishna Rajan are campaigning for the director of communications and internal and director of education and equity respectively.
Patel will be competing with Parmvir Brar, the only other candidate for that position, and Rajan will be challenged by Aasreen Sood. Bharavi Desai, Rohan Khullar, and Urdhva Shukla are running for the director of student experience position, the other executive position which will be elected this spring.
Seven representative positions within the SA are opened for different academic departments as well.
Isha Patil, Kanav Bhatia, Rajdeep Banesinhbhai Dodiya, Saujatya Ghosh, and Shehzad Contractor are running for the position of or Arts, Design, and Information Technology Educational Centre representative.
For the Business Centre representative, Naman Bafna, the incumbent, will be challenged by Pallavi Jatian, Andrea Munoz, Chahat Pusha, and Ekjot Singh are running for the position.
Similarly, Dishant Patel will be looking to keep his position while challenged by Birkawal Singh Anand, Tasneem Khan, and Dhruv Shah.
The other three centre representative positions only have two candidates each. For the health science education centre, Dhwani Bhalavat and Senthil Thevar are campaigning. Meanwhile for the Hospitality and Culinary Arts representative election will pit Anushka Chopra against Dhwani Panchal. Whereas for Community Services and Early Childhood representative, Sarah Anderson will compete against Jaimini Dave.
The SA has also extended the deadline for nominations for the Preparatory and Liberal Studies Educational Centre representative to March 29, 2021. The campaigning period started on March 23, 2021, and the voting period is scheduled to begin on April 5, 2021.
