Nothing is stopping the George Brown Huskies according to the last 12 games. The men’s basketball team added a series of wins to their impressive season, against Centennial, Fleming and Durham. With five games on their schedule this month, the team won three and looks to add two more.

The Huskies returned from the winter break nearly breaking their ongoing run, but would find themselves keeping it going, with a close 92-84 win against Centennial College. For forward Christian Tabiri, watching from the bench was nerve-racking. “All we needed to do was play defence,” he said of the fourth quarter, “we were just yelling. It was just exciting.”

The run was extended on January 17 against Fleming College. The Huskies used all of their offense in an impressive 114-75 win. At the centre of the win was Naseem Barry, who got 21 points, a game high. His teammate Tabiri was more than happy to praise Barry. “It was amazing,” he said, “he was dealing with (a lot), but now he’s back. I’m proud of him.” Barry wasn’t alone. The team also saw high scoring from Chris Fields, who put up seven assists, Robert Ocampo and Khadar Gaal, both getting 13 and 11 points.

The team added wins against Durham College, beating the Lords 92-66, and a . Ocampo led the scoring with 20 points, with Derrick Taylor earning 18. The Huskies will finish the month at home facing U of T and Algonquin.

Huskies stars Zae Sellers and Victoria Lawrence made no delay in breaking the women’s basketball team’s nearly two month break, each netting high point games. The duo would lead the Huskies past Centennial with a 81-77 overtime win, bringing 28 and 27 points respectively.

Granger, a rookie guard/forward, praised the duo. “Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” she said with confidence. “They don’t only give us points, they give us leadership.”

For captain Sellers, the win was a relief. “It felt really good being able to push through adversity,” Sellers said, “especially coming off a large break like that. It shows we could push through rustiness, we were able to combat that together and get through it together, so that was good for us.”

Victoria Lawrence put up 25 points against Durham College, but the team faced a 71-57 defeat. George Brown currently stands third in the East, tied with U of T Mississauga. They face Mississauga in a bid to break the tie on January 24th, and finish the month against the unbeaten Algonquin.
