Boat Cruise ‘gala edition’

SA boat cruise featured three-course meal and six DJs

The gala edition for the Boat Cruise was organized by the Student Association (SA) of George Brown College (GBC) April 22. The special highlights of the cruise included a three-course meal and six different DJs spinning on two decks.

This was the first time when an idea of a gala was merged with a boat cruise for the college students. “The idea of a gala came from the plans of doing a gala in a banquet hall,” said Neil Cumberbatch. Senior coordinator for events and marketing for the SA. “I did not want to do both of them separately because it would have clashed,” he added.

The tickets were priced at $35 for the GBC students and at $45 for the guests which was higher than previous years. “Normally, for food it is usually pizza or burgers,” said Cumberbatch. “This time, given a three-course meal, we put up prices a bit.”

There used to be only two DJs and the boat was bigger this year, he added.

A week before the event, 200 tickets had been sold for the cruise. The SA did a give-away of free tickets to its staff to ensure the event was packed.
