According to the United Nations, 26 adolescents are infected with HIV every hour.

The Community Action Centre (CAC) has been tabling at George Brown College (GBC) this month, to raise money for HIV and AIDS research, and raise awareness on the issue.

“With Kisses 4 CANFAR we’re raising money only to donate directly to CANFAR,” said Steff Pinch, CAC assistant. “CANFAR funds awesome HIV/AIDS research.”

By taking a #smoocheselfie at the CANFAR booth, students were able to help fund HIV and AIDS research while supporting those who are fighting their own battles with the viruses.

According to the Kisses 4 CANFAR website, the campaign is geared towards “engaging youth in discussions about HIV and AIDS, through reliable and accurate information that ensures students have the necessary tools to make safer and more informed decisions.” The campaign hopes to, “encourage dialogue about HIV and AIDS, prevention, and stigma reduction.”

CANFAR, the organization behind the campaign, aims to fund ground-breaking research, as well as free and accessible resources to young people. According to CANFAR, the organization has had materials adopted by schools in every province and territory.
