Thousands of students to protest cuts to OSAP Friday

George Brown College contingent to meet at Waterfront campus at 1 p.m. as part of larger March Against OSAP Cuts protest

The Student Association of George Brown College is calling on students to join the March Against OSAP Cuts planned for Friday starting at 2 p.m at Yonge and Dundas Square and then marching to Queen’s Park.

The March Against OSAP Cuts Facebook event has 4,200 people saying they will go and another 21,000 people saying they are interested in attending.

“This year, The Ontario government has decided to target our right to education through the recent OSAP reform.” reads the event description. “All students will be affected, and now it is our time to tell the government that we will not sit in silence.”

There will be sign making with the Community Action Centre at the clubs fair in the Waterfront campus main lobby from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m, the group will leave from Waterfront campus to the main protest at Yonge and Dundas Square.

Transportation and hand-warmers are provided.

Under the new OSAP plan, grants are being cut for students, and interest will now be charged on student loans immediately upon graduation.
