Mental Beats: 15th Annual Mental Health Conference at George Brown College

601_edit2_edit This year marks the 15th Annual George Brown College Mental Health Conference.

I will be attending this year, and am looking forward to hearing this year’s keynote speaker, Jonny  Morris from the Canadian Mental Health Association B.C. division, who will also lead a panel of  students who will share their experiences and perspectives.

We are encouraging attendees to not only take part in the discussions, but to reflect on how we can  make post-secondary campuses healthier and more comfortable for students who suffer from  mental illness.

Some of the areas that will be focused on at the conference are:

  • creating inclusive environments,
  • addressing teaching and learning needs,
  • designing supported education models,
  • providing awareness and training opportunities, and
  • engaging student leadership.

The conference will be held at the Waterfront Campus which will be a change from it’s normal location at St. James campus.
